An Exhaustive Guide to Saving Your Smartphone’s Battery

leave a comment »

For all those who complain about the battery life of their phone, here’s what you can do about it.

On a related note, despite complaints from my parents and others, following the general and iPhone-specific guidelines mentioned here has increased the battery life of my phone substantially since the OS 3.1 update.  Here’s how I do it: I don’t use (or need) 3G to make calls – at this point, EDGE data does almost nothing to decrease the battery, lock my phone with the shortest possible “time-out” and use other services like GPS, or Bluetooth only when I need them.

Interestingly enough, having gone through the setup process with an iPhone 3GS (Mom’s phone), battery life with the above services TURNED ON has been (in my experience) equal to or better than my personal 3G setup.
